Craig S Ruby is a licensed CPA in Nevada with over 40 years’ experience. He got his undergraduate degree in Accounting from Indiana University – Bloomington. Mr. Ruby was an active member of the Las Vegas Chapter of IMA for more than 20 years and served as president in 1996.
Mr. Ruby spent the first 10 years of his career as an auditor with local and national accounting firms. He has performed audits in many industries including banking, mortgage lending, securities, and precious metal trading, local government, retail sales, auto dealerships, wholesale distributors, manufacturing, and service-based clients. In addition to auditing, Mr. Ruby’s background includes working as a controller in the industries of retail sales, multi-location franchisees, wholesale distributors, and manufacturing.
Mr. Ruby began his own accounting practice in Las Vegas in 1992, providing accounting, tax, and computer consulting services. In addition to providing these traditional services, he developed a style of business consulting called “Controller on Call” where he specialized in working with clients who were not big enough to hire a full-time controller, and provided business insights from an accounting perspective.
Later in his career, Mr. Ruby worked with a consulting firm specializing in accounting services and assisted several gaming properties on specific accounting projects, where he was affectionately given the title of “Macro Man” for his expertise in using Excel to resolve management accounting issues. Additionally, Mr. Ruby worked as an independent consultant assisting several local CPA firms over the years with their excess workloads during the tax season.
During his career, Mr. Ruby also found time to be a youth volunteer for more than 15 years, served on the board of the DeMolay Foundation of Nevada, Inc. for 10 years, and supported Shriners Hospitals for Children both financially and as a volunteer for over 25 years.
Mr. Ruby has always had the heart of a teacher, taking the time to assist staff and co-workers in learning how accounting works and how to use Excel to get the job done more efficiently. He has taught continuing professional education seminars on several computer topics, including Excel, for the Las Vegas Chapter of IMA, the UNLV Student Chapter of IMA and others. He also had the opportunity to teach at the College of Southern Nevada as a part-time instructor teaching “Taxation for Individuals” at multiple campus locations, for several semesters.
Mr. Ruby is a member of Central Christian Church in Henderson, where he attends regularly and gives of his time, talents and means to help others grow closer to God through Jesus Christ.
